Few things are as thrilling as an evenly matched game. When two teams possess equal skill and determination, the excitement reaches new heights and each play becomes a showcase of talent and strategy. This weekend saw a number of such games.

Redlegs v Greenbottles – Under 16
Redlegs and Greenbottles were well matched for Saturday’s game with both teams starting strong under the hot sun. After some back and forth in the mid field, Greens caught a break and moved the ball into Redlegs’ defence where the two Redlegs defenders were there to meet them and lock sticks, creating a loose ball that was quickly picked up by a Green’s player. After a few swift movements the Greens player was able to get it into the goal.
The majority of the first half was played out in Redlegs defence line with Reds making many breaks for the ball, only for Greenbottles attack to quickly return. Redlegs did a great job holding them off but Greens wore them down and eventually scored again.
After half time Greenbottles came in strong right from the whistle, moving the ball down into their attack line and getting set up to score but were soon met by a strong defence line in red. The play continued to dominate Greens way with a few loose balls picked up by the Redlegs attack who saw an opportunity and open field to go for a run, but due to the Greenbottles defence, were unable to score.
The last quarter saw some very tired and hot players running the game out in the hot sun. Redlegs played a strong quarter holding Greens off till the end of the game.
Greens took the win 4-0.

Redlegs v Kingston/Lucindale – Women
Spirits were high as Kingston/Lucindale Rangers and Redlegs took to the field Saturday afternoon. It was an evenly matched game, with excellent passages of play by both teams defining the first half.
Despite well-structured plays to bring the ball into the circle, neither team could convert, despite early opportunities. It was a midfielder game, with many strong crosses to running leads.
It took until the fourth quarter to break the goal drought led by Hunter Adams who knocked the ball cleanly into the goals off a penalty corner. Jada Copping, a very handy bye-player from Greenbottles, quickly followed with another goal for Reds.
Never forgetting their will to win, Kingston/Lucindale scored through a great passage of play and a shot from Nicola Turner. Fighting to the end, K/L kept the pressure on the Redlegs defence, but were unable to score again, leaving the game a 2-1 win for Redlegs.
