Greenbottles vs Tatiara – Under 16

It was a fast-paced hour of hockey where both Greenbottles and Tatiara had their chances to score, but only Greenbottles were able to convert.

Corrie Taylor controlled the play beautifully through the centre for Greenbottles, tackling well then distributing the ball out wide to debutants U13’s Winnie Schinckel and Madeleine McGregor. Together with U13 Elle Copping, the girls held their own against their more experienced opposition.

Hannah Harkness, whose speed and skills were on display, helped Tatiara move the ball to their end. Greenbottles’ Lachie Withers, however, reliably cleared the ball to help Greenbottles regain possession. Henry Fry took the ball down centre, utilised team mates Jada Copping and Eliza Withers to dodge a sea of blue, and then finished off with a goal.

Similarly, Greenbottles’ Toby Boord and Alice Fry teamed-up and tensions were high as shots at goal went slightly wide, until finally Toby snuck in a fine reverse-stick goal. Tatiara momentarily took control of the game through Finn Quilter until Greenbottles forced a short in which Jim Hansford’s powerful shot found the backboard.

In retaliation, Tatiara sent the ball back to their end where Oisin Gill-O’Donovan used his skills to earn a short; a raised tomahawk was disallowed and kept Tatiara’ scoreline at nil. Greenbottles pounced, moved the ball to their end and Henry Fry scored again through yet another short to finish off the game.

This match was well played by both teams and was a classic case where the scoreline didn’t reflect the closeness of the contest.

Greenbottles vs Tatiara – Women

Greenbottles and Tatiara each welcomed some new team members this year, and did well to gel so early in the season.

Plenty of scoring opportunities for Greenbottles, including many short corners, had Tatiara’s defence on the hop right from the start. Jaime Densley and Claire Harkness contributed particularly well for Tatiara. Greenbottles’ Lucy Possingham eventually broke the deadlock with the first goal late in the second quarter. Emily Clark Hood – back from a decade-long hiatus followed with an impressive goal off a well-placed pass into the circle.

Tatiara came back hungry in the third quarter and, while fullback Clarry Martin repeatedly drove the ball through a sea of Greenbottles deep into their attack, they failed to convert. A quick breakaway by Greenbottles caught Tatiara off guard and the Derrington sisters did their grandfather proud with a smooth passage of play resulting in a goal from Tillie.

Legs began to tire in the final quarter but the desire for goals didn’t. Some beautiful team play by Greenbottles saw Emily Clark Hood convert again to seal the win. It was an exciting contest that saw excellent team work by both teams, wonderful defending by Tatiara goalie Piper Taylor, and some well-executed Greenbottles goals.
