Dartmoor vs Kingston/Lucindale – Under 16
There was excitement in the air as Dartmoor and Kingston/Lucindale took to the field for the preliminary final. These teams have been very evenly matched throughout the season and the game did not disappoint.
Dartmoor put the pressure on at the sound of the first whistle working the ball through Kinston/Lucindale’s defence. Kingston/Lucindale’s goalie had his eye in and Dartmoor were going to have to produce something spectacular to get anything past him.
Dartmoor’s younger players made good use of short passes and worked the ball well using the wings.
Liam Hill’s speed and fullback experience for Kingston/Lucindale had him covering Dartmoor’s attacks well. Jesse and Lewis and Lochie Dolphin played some beautiful overhead passes into the circle and kept the pressure on Kingston/Lucindale resulting in a lot of short corners, but to KL’s credit they kept their cool and stopped any attack that Dartmoor threw at them.
At the half time whistle it was still anyone’s game.
The tension was mounting as the second half started. A bit of a change in the line up for Dartmoor saw the girls take control of the ball and work with each other dominating the mid field.
Dartmoor’s Mason White ran into the circle with Jen Ellis firing off a pass to him, scoring the first goal for Dartmoor.
This fired the Kingston/Lucindale attackers up who put pressure on the Dartmoor defence with Jesse Durik standing strong in the backline for Dartmoor.
Kingston/Lucindale were not going down without a fight with Chris Hille and Sarah Johns making some beautiful plays.
Hearts were racing not only on the field but on the side line as the spectators watched the ball go from one end of the field to the other. Each team was giving their all bt both were unable to score until Jesse Lewis for Dartmoor slotted the ball in behind Kingston/Lucindale’s goalie for a 2-0 win.
