Semi-Finals – Season 2023
Perfect weather opened the final series with a lot of close and hard fought games.
Redlegs vs Kingston/Lucindale – Under 13
The game started with Redlegs coming out hard and getting plenty of shots early on, though they couldn’t quite manage to get through Kingston/Lucindale’s defence. There were some excellent clears by the Kingston/Lucindale backline, and then the game evened out with a great show of teamwork and skill from both sides. Finally, Grace from Redlegs managed to get one through, leaving them 1 up at quarter time.
The second quarter seemed to be a reversal of the first, with Kingston/Lucindale starting out strong and determined to even the score, with some more excellent clears to be seen, this time by the Redlegs defence, and then the game evened out again.
The back and forth continued until Seth managed to score another goal for Redlegs in the middle of the third quarter, giving them a 2-0 lead at 3/4 time.
The last quarter saw Kingston/Lucindale come out hard again, with both teams giving the spectators an excellent display of finals hockey. K/L’s Sarah made a quick break, taking on the Reds goalie and scoring. Knowing the end of the game was fast approaching, Kingston/Lucindale were definitely keen to even the score. Sarah made another fast break right at the end of the game, leaving spectators on edge, however Reds goalie Hadleigh managed to get there in time to stop the shot, leaving the score 2-1 at full time.
Dartmoor vs Greenbottles – Under 13
Dartmoor and Greenbottles lined up for the second Under 13 semi final for the day.
Dartmoor knew that Greenbottles were going to bring their A game today and would have to stay focused on their game plan. The game started out very even with a lot of play in the mid field.
Greenbottles made some good breaks and kept Dartmoor’s backline on their toes. Dartmoor’s forward line then stepped up a notch and put the pressure on Greenbottles defence.
Greenbottles’ goalie was kept very busy and should be commended on the saves he made throughout the game. Greenbottles continued to make some break away runs up the sideline only to have the ball cleared by the Dartmoor goalie.
It was a very exciting match to watch.

Redlegs vs Tatiara- Under 16
The conditions were perfect and excitement was high for the very first game of the semi-finals between the Redlegs and Tatiara U16s!
The first quarter was a very even game, seeing Tatiara firing up quickly with a great goal by Oisin. Redlegs responded soon after with a goal of their own by Buzz, evening the score. There were plenty more shots at goal by both sides, however some excellent saves by both goalies kept the teams on even footing. Finally in the second quarter, Seth from Reds managed to score, leaving them 2-1 up at half time.
Tatiara came out hard in the second half and dominated the third quarter, with the majority of the play in their half and plenty of shots at goal, though Reds defence managed to keep them from scoring, and gave Buzz an opportunity for a quick break and another goal.
The last quarter was a very even game, with plenty of back and forth, and both sides starting to tire. Reds sealed their 4-1 win with one final goal from Seth – a nice clean shot off a short corner.
A great game was played by all, with lots of great passing and some fantastic teamwork shown by both sides.
Dartmoor vs Kingston/Lucindale- Under 16
The Under 16 Kingston/Lucindale v Dartmoor game brought out the best in both teams. While both teams played exceptionally well, there could only be one winner.
Kingston/Lucindale and Dartmoor both attacked and defended amazingly keeping the score to 5-0.
It took a while for Dartmoor to score their first goal because of Kingston/Lucindale’s incredible defence, but Dartmoor eventually achieved their first goal.
Both teams played amazingly and should be very proud of their efforts.

Greenbottles vs Kingston/Lucindale – Women
Playing for a spot in the finals took the tempo up a level but the structure of the Greens held strong.
Threats to goal were numerous but they didn’t find their home in the first half.
Close work around the goals with Emily Cattuzzo, Harriet Waters and Tillie Derrington all had a touch but it took Rachael Withers in the third quarter to put it in the back of the goals to take the score to 1-0.
This set the benchmark and repeat short corners with Shan Derrington or Abby Waugh on shot had KL locked in defence mode.
Michelle Smith for KL did her best to break the passes and Nicole Turner was a stronghold in the back. Sharon Clothier was incredible as KL Goalkeeper. However, their efforts were to no avail and Greens go through to the next round of finals.
