Round 9 – Season 2023
Despite the cold morning, it didn’t take long for things to warm up…
Under 9
It was a cold and windy morning for the under nines game but all the kids were out on the field ready to get moving. It was a great game between Greenbottles and Redlegs with Redlegs making some quick breaks and scoring early. There was good use of all the players on the field sharing the ball around with lots of wide passes.
There were some great tackle battles between players on the field and lots of great passing. All the under 9s are showing great improvement.
Well done to all the kids and coaches.
Redlegs vs Dartmoor – Under 13
Despite the cold morning, it didn’t take long for things to warm up as Dartmoor started the game strongly and quickly had the Reds defenders under pressure. Mason White was able to score early which fired up his teammates and allowed them to help him and Nate Harris both find the back of the net.
Redlegs made a few adjustments after the first break and were able to generate a bit of their own forward movement. Some great runs from Seth Gale and Grace Law put Reds into a better attacking position but the defence from Dartmoor was too strong for them to get through. At the other end, Darts kept pressing forward with every opportunity they could but the Redlegs defenders tightened up their lines and kept them scoreless for the quarter.
The third quarter saw some similar gameplay with the ball going end to end quite a bit but both sets of defenders weren’t going to let anything through and some great saves by both goalkeepers was enough to make sure the scoreboard read the same at the last break as it had since the first quarter.
The last quarter saw Darts come out hard and fast like they began the game and Mason was quick to capitalise on the momentum and find the goals. This was enough to spur on his team and although Sophie Tate and the Redlegs defenders kept working as hard as they could, some great teamwork by the Dartmoor forwards saw Eddie Dolphin and Joe McLean join the goal scorers list and Darts secure the win.

Redlegs vs Greenbottles – Women
The game started off pretty slow from both the women teams, though the rain got heavier in the second quarter, that’s really when the game started, though it was a nil all score at the end, it was a really good quarter.
The third quarter was even better then the second with Madi Derrington scoring the first goal of the game. Then it was on with Redlegs scoring their first goal to make the end of the quarter 1 all.
The last quarter was very strong from both teams with an even amount of time in both teams attack and defence, Redlegs scored the last goal of the game in the middle of the quarter then focused more on defence.
The game ended with Redlegs winning 2-1 but by the looks of the game, both teams ended as winners.

Tatiara 3 def Dartmoor 2 – Goal scorers: Olivia Williams 2 (T), Elferaan Williams (T), Sarah Hamilton 2 (D)

Redlegs vs Greenbottles – Men
The dismay at the poor weather was forgotten as soon as the first whistle blew. Greenbottles lined up short of players, but were the first to hit the scoreboard. Redlegs answered with an impressive sweep shot by Lyndon.
As the rain bucketed down, the players continued to run up and down the field, demonstrating a great blend of skill and speed. Redlegs scored again, quickly followed by Greenbottles.
Strong passing and teamwork by Greenbottles saw them press a consistent attack on the Redlegs circle, culminating in a penalty corner goal from Callum.
Desperate for a goal off their own penalty corner to tie the game, Reds met on the top of the circle. The drag flick by Buzz Brennan flew into the net, bringing the score to 3-3.
With tired legs on both sides, the battle continued until full time, ending the game with a draw.
